The Quiet Birdmen: “Blood, Sweat & Tears” - A Novel by Steven Barton

Book Reviews

Your writing is outstanding, and I am enjoying every single page.  Thanks very much for sharing this story with the world.  I've recently been invited to join QB by a brother Mason, and in doing some research on QB I ran across your website and book.  It is certainly one of the best finds that I've made in quite some time.

Best Regards,

I was honored, when  author Steve Barton sent me a signed copy of his latest novel: The Quite Birdmen. I’m an avid reader and enjoy reading several novels a month. The Quite Birdmen has it all. Set in Europe during WWII it’s based on a revealing story of a group of German airmen’s actions during the war.  I don’t want to give much of the plot away so I won’t say much more than to highly recommend that you read this book whether you are an aviator or not, you will find it riveting.

Hi Steve,

I just got through with your book, The Quiet Birdmen... WOW  it’s great.
My Dad was a Lt. in the Army Air Corps flying navigator in B-29s in the Pacific so I have a great interest in WWII.
I really loved reading it, it brought back many memories, it's very emotional from smiles to tears.  Very well written.
Regards,
QB John McCain

Steven,

I am blown away by your book.  It just came and I have read several chapters.
We have never met. I am Capt. Sam and Betty Barnitt's daughter.

I feel like I am getting to know you through the book and, of course, know other sides of Capt. Ray Schmidt.
Ray is my connection to my Dad as friends and relatives in my parents' age group are now deceased.

Thank you so much for doing the book. Memories need to be preserved, tales told and secrets released. I am so glad your Dad lived to tell you the story of your life and his.

Sincerely and with love,
Joan Barnitt Fuess

Steven,

You have a great story!  This was great reading to me.  I just finished the book and have to read it again... I know all of the QB`s you mentioned, and many more, between my 30 years with Eastern, and the USAF before that.

Burro,

I'm reading Steven Barton's book, "The Quiet Birdmen".

Are you the RAYMOND SCHMIDT, QB# 24567, mentioned in the book?

If so, it is my pleasure to thank you for your outstanding efforts and accomplishments, especially still being alive!

P.S. I just finished Erik Benson's book "Aviator of Fortune" written about the life of Lowell Yerex, #05117A.  He was a great guy also but not in the same league compared to you!

Dear Mr. Barton,

As a retired Eastern Captain, I look forward to reading your book about fellow pilots Capt. Bill Frey and Capt. Jack Solderholm, along with the other GREAT Eastern Pilots. Those two were fellow members of the Flying Jackasses Squadron, during the N. Africa campaign in the beginning of WWII. They were a credit to the AAC and the crew members they flew with!

By the way, I loved flying with your father, he was one of the best Captains that I ever flew with when I was a co-pilot, and Flight Engineer.

Interestingly, I had no idea that my father was a QB member until I read his obituary that he had drafted.  Paul James Baker, pilot, died at age 89, November 27, 2009.  He did fly West for that one last check.

Sincerely,
